Start in Zagreb and finish in Zagreb.

Tour Itinerary

Arrive at Munich airport 20/10/26. ( Alternatively, fly directly to Zagreb)
Day exploring Munich.

DAY 1: First Class train from Munich central to Zagreb, Croatia. This train ride goes through Austria with magnificent views of the Austrian alps.

Late afternoon and evening in Zagreb for great local food and atmosphere of the Balkans.

DAY 2: Transport to the bike depot, paperwork, and final preparations pre ride.
Leaving Zagreb mid morning and ride to the Croatia/Slovenia border ( no border control).

Lunch in Slovenia, then we make our way to Rijeka and the start of the beautiful Adriatic coast road.

Accommodation on the coast with local seafood and beer.

DAY 3: This morning we have a spectacular ride, hugging the coastline to Split, famous for its narrow streets and port. (Major filming for Game of Thrones). After lunch we continue and some more exploration of Split. Our accommodation is out of the city and into the hills, staying in a small Croatian village, mixing with the locals and eating local produce.

DAY 4: Another spectacular stretch of coastline this morning to the Bosnia Herzegovina border. ( official border control as BH is not in the EU).

We stay the night in the historic city of Mostar ( famous for its 16th century bridge that was rebuilt after being bombed in 1993).

A visit to the war museum in Mostar gives an insight into the conflict.

DAY 5: Leaving Mostar in the morning and crossing the border back into Croatia. Our destination is Montenegro (border control) and the incredible city of Kotor. Another beautiful coast ride to check out Dubrovnik along the way.

The Serpentine road to the top overlooking Kotor is a highlight.

We stay in Montenegro.

DAY 6: We leave Montenegro and cross over into Serbia ( border control) and the capital Belgrade. This is a long ride with relatively flat agricultural land with numerous small villages to explore.
Stay in a small village outside Belgrade.

DAY 7: Our destination today is Budapest the capital Hungary ( border control).
The ride today is through many small villages where we stop for coffee and lunch Hungarian style.

We park our bikes near the city centre and explore this historical city.

Accommodation in or just outside Budapest.

DAY 8: After breakfast we head into Slovakia ( border control) and ride to the historic and beautiful city of Bratislava. Bratislava is a great city to explore and enjoy its history.

Stay near Bratislava.

DAY 9: Today is a short ride to the Austrian ( temporary controls due to immigration) border and a visit to the spectacular and cultural city of Vienna. We park our bikes in the centre of the city ( free parking for bikes) and explore the architecture of this beautiful city.
The afternoon ride takes us through the stunning scenery and many traditional Austrian towns.

Stay in Austria.

DAY 10: We finally reach the alps and make our way into Northern Italy ( temporary border control).

A very exciting day as we will ride into the Dolomites and the famous Stelvio Pass at 2,527 metres.

This is a brilliant iconic ride.
We may, depending on weather, ride more passes.

Stay in the area.

DAY 11: Another day spent riding in the alps and exploring the small mountain villages. Lots of stops for photos.

Accommodation in the Alpine area.

DAY 12: We leave the Alps and make our way south to the outskirts of Venice. This is a fantastic ride through the wine and olive growing agricultural towns. We stay at an ‘Agritourismo’ homestay in the countryside outside of Venice.

DAY 13: A visit to the ‘City of Canals’, Venice, is a once or twice in a lifetime experience.

A relaxed day exploring the city and its hidden cafes on the many canals.
We cross the border back into Slovenia and its spectacular countryside and villages.
Accommodation is at a family run small bed and breakfast with amazing food and local wine. ( this is a famous wine making area).

After breakfast we visit the Stanjel village, a 17th century fortress to protect the villagers from the Ottoman raids.

DAY 14: We head into the hills of Slovenia for a wonderful winding ride through villages and forests. Our destination is the small moated town of Krik, close to the Croatian border.

DAY 15: A Morning ride to Zagreb completes this tour of the Balkans and Italy.

Bikes: Suzuki V-Strom 650XT with panniers (upgrade is not a problem to larger bike, at extra cost).

  • Accommodation – twin share basis, single rooms are an extra cost upon request;
